How reputation, unlocks and blueprints work
Understand how reputation unlocks better contracts, how you earn blueprints from missions, and how to craft items with them at a fabricator.
Star Citizen has no character levels. Instead, you progress in two ways: reputation with the companies and people you work for, and blueprints that let you craft gear. The two are linked, because many of the best blueprints come from contracts that need high reputation.
How reputation works
- Every company and contact you work for tracks its own standing with you.
- Completing their contracts raises your reputation. Failing them lowers it.
- Fail too many and you get fired. You then cannot take contracts from that company for 24 hours.
- Your standing changes how mission givers talk to you, and whether their security and AI pilots treat you as friendly or hostile.
- When you share a contract with your party, the reputation is split evenly between you.
You can follow your progress in the reputation app on your mobiGlas.
What reputation unlocks
Higher reputation opens up new mission givers, better paid contracts, restricted locations, shops and gear. Some examples of what that looks like in 4.10.2:
- Covalex hauling starts at the Trainee rank and goes up to Master, where interstellar cargo contracts across Stanton, Pyro and Nyx unlock.
- Shubin Interstellar mining orders step up from small (rank 1) to medium (rank 2) to large ship mining orders (rank 3).
- Ling Family Hauling contracts climb from Applicant to Runner.
- People's Alliance in Nyx unlocks contracts for special Drake Golem, MISC Prospector and Argo MOLE variants at Prestige 1, 2 and 3.
- Wildstar Racing opens new race tracks as your reputation goes from 0 to 4.
- Wikelo has his own customer ranks, and two of his biggest trades need them.
Stick with one or two companies at a time. Spreading your work across lots of companies slows down every reputation track.
What blueprints are
A blueprint lets you craft an item at an item fabricator. Once you have a blueprint, it is added to your account permanently and can be used again and again. When the patch 4.8 wipe happened, players kept the blueprints they had earned.
Crafting arrived in patch 4.7 with FPS weapons and armor. Ship component and mining equipment blueprints have since been added as contract rewards.
How to get blueprints
- Starter set: a small number of blueprints are available from the start. You can see them at any item fabricator.
- Contract rewards: most blueprints come from contracts. Many give one blueprint from a reward pool when you finish.
- Loot: blueprints can also be found in loot crates.
- Wikelo trades: some of Wikelo's trades reward a blueprint along with the item.
Some examples of blueprint rewards in 4.10.2:
- Shubin large ship mining orders can reward mining laser and module blueprints such as the Helix I, Pitman, Arbor MH1 and Lancet MH1.
- Covalex Master interstellar hauling can reward component blueprints such as the VK-00, XL-1 and TS-2 quantum drives and the Palisade shield.
- Ling Family Hauling contracts can reward component blueprints such as the Spectre and Zephyr quantum drives.
- Reduce Valakkar Breaker Station Population (Highpoint Wilderness Specialists, Nyx) always rewards one blueprint, such as the R97 Shotgun or a piece of Monde armor.
- Siege of Orison (Northrock Service Group) awards from the BUL-H4 armor blueprint pool. You may need several runs to collect them all.
Not every event gives blueprints. The Orison Relief Support rewards in 4.10.1 were finished items, not blueprints.
How to craft an item
- Get to an item fabricator. You can buy one from shops at select landing zones and space stations, then retrieve it through a freight elevator.
- Open the blueprint collection on the fabricator and choose a blueprint you own.
- Check the materials it needs and their quality. Assign materials from your inventory yourself, or use autofill.
- Start the job. Craft time depends on the item's size and quality, and you can queue several jobs.
- Collect the finished item. Completed jobs show in the history log of the queue screen.
- Materials have a quality value between 0 and 1000. Higher quality materials give better stats on the crafted item.
- Mixing materials of different quality can give you an average quality.
- The fabricator can also dismantle items into materials. It has separate queues, so you can craft and dismantle at the same time.
- A fabricator can be moved with a tractor beam and attached to a ship's cargo grid, and in a hangar it can reach your local inventory.
Since patch 4.10, some of Wikelo's ship trades ask you to craft a specific item with a single-use blueprint and hand it in with the rest of the order.
